The style of counselling I primarily offer is person centred, meaning you are in control of the sessions, and we look at the here and now. But depending on what happens, we might dip a toe into some psychodynamic (the past) issues, or it might be that the focus is on achieving goals in a structured way (leaning towards Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.)
I work confidentially and collaboratively with you to assist you in working with any issues listed above. I may be able to offer up a new perspective and assist you with experimenting with new solutions. I will listen to you, sometimes ask open questions and work to create a trustworthy and supportive relationship with you. I will be keen to understand the world from your point of view and in an effort to achieve this, I now offer a free first half hour consultation. I will also want to work in a way that best suits you, helping you get the most from the session together, sharing control of the work being done between us.
We will regularly review our sessions and progress, as well as deciding together when the work should end. Thereis no minimum amount of sessions. It is very important that you find the right counsellor for you! I am always happy to talk informally over the phone, or face to face about the process of counselling and to answer any further questions you may have. If after that, we decide together that another form of support may work better for you, I will be happy to refer you on.
I am a fully qualified Counsellor (Diploma, L4, AQA/NCFE) and Play Therapist (Cert / Dip PTUK), as well as a Certified SandStory® Therapist and Trainer.
